At San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic, we’re committed to patient education, and we love it when our clients ask questions. Whether you’re just beginning to consider Botox in San Diego and other anti-aging cosmetic treatments, or you’ve been thinking about it for a long time, kudos to you for doing your research before jumping in! Botox is among the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, but it’s not for everyone. Before you commit to getting Botox for the first time, here are some things you’ll want to know.
- Botox only works on dynamic wrinkles
Botox only works on the lines and wrinkles that appear when you make facial expressions. It does not work on the lines and wrinkles that remain when your face is still.
- Botox is not a filler
Botox does not fall into the same category as dermal fillers. Although both are cosmetic injectables, they work differently. Botox freezes the muscles that cause the wrinkles, while dermal fillers fill in lost volume to smooth out and minimize the appearance of the wrinkles.
- A Botox consultation is a necessity
Any reputable and experienced Botox provider will take the time to evaluate your natural facial expressions and discuss your goals and preferences prior to performing the injections. Any practitioner who goes straight for the needle without a consultation should be avoided.
- Botox can be used in combination with fillers
Botox and dermal fillers work beautifully in combination. Not only can they work together to soften and minimize the appearance of both static and dynamic wrinkles, but they also allow you to address multiple areas of the face at once. Botox is typically used around the eyes and forehead, and dermal fillers on the mid- and lower-face areas.
- Botox is temporary
Botox treatments can last between 3 and 5 months, depending on the individual. This is important to know going in because if you love your results, you’ll need to go back for more. And if you decide it’s not for you, there’s no need to worry—the results are temporary.
- Botox is not entirely painless
As much as we want to promise a perfectly pain-free experience for all our treatments at San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic, there is discomfort involved with some of them. Injectable procedures are not the worst of them, but the sensations aren’t exactly pleasant either. We promise to do everything we can to keep you as comfortable as possible.
- Too good to be true Botox prices usually are
If you’re getting an unbelievable bargain for your Botox treatments, you might want to think twice. Reputable clinics guarantee fresh products and experienced injectors, and saving a few dollars per unit is not worth the risk of a botched Botox treatment.
- The best Botox results require some preparation
Yes, you probably can just pop in and get a Botox treatment, but without some preparation, you increase the risk of bruising. If you book your procedure two weeks ahead, and then avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, green tea, red wine, and other blood-thinning foods and medications, you’ll decrease the risk of bruising. For the best results, ask your practitioner for pre-procedure instructions.
- Natural-looking Botox results are possible
If you’re going for natural-looking Botox results, a general rule of thumb is to start with a lower dose. You can always increase the dose later. You’ll begin to see results within a few days, but it can take up to two weeks to see the final results. It’s best to wait at least two weeks to increase your dose.
- No one has to know you had Botox
Botox has a bad rap mostly because the botched Botox jobs are the ones that stand out. Undoubtedly, you’ve seen celebrities and everyday people who have had Botox, but the results were subtle and natural-looking. This is far more common than most people realize.
