Improve your self-confidence with Labiaplasty

Vaginal Rejuvenation in San Diego

Confidence is sexy. But if you’re embarrassed or uncomfortable because of the appearance of elongated, misshapen, or asymmetrical vaginal lips; or if they’re causing problems with your clothing or your sexual experiences, it can put a serious damper on your daily life and your confidence. Although you may feel resigned to the discomfort, you don’t have to be. A labiaplasty procedure can change everything.

How do you know if you need a labiaplasty?

Although there are women who opt for labiaplasty surgery for aesthetic purposes, many women undergo the surgery for its functional benefits. It’s important to remember that there is no specific “normal” when it comes to the way labia look, so if you’re merely wondering if your labia “look” abnormal, then you probably don’t need the surgery. But if you have excessively long labia that cause pain or discomfort during intercourse, or if your clothing is chafing your labia, labiaplasty may be medically necessary to avoid painful tears in the labia. In these cases a labiaplasty can increase your comfort level – and your confidence. And of course, it’s perfectly acceptable to have labiaplasty surgery for purely cosmetic purposes as well.

How Much Does a Labiaplasty Cost?

According to recent statistics provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of a labiaplasty is approximately $4,750 As with any cosmetic procedure, the cost of labia surgery varies by cosmetic surgery practice.

At San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic, we offer special prices on many of our services, including labiaplasty. The cost for a basic labiaplasty is $3,000

What is a labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a simple cosmetic procedure that gives women the option to reshape their labia minora, also known as the inner vaginal lips. This allows patients to reverse the unwanted side effects of aging and childbirth, or correct labial issues that have affected them since puberty. The labia minora often grow larger during pregnancy due to changes in hormones, and the tissue typically will not shrink on its own after a baby is born. A carefully performed labiaplasty can reduce embarrassment, restore body confidence, relieve discomfort from chafing in snug clothing, and prevent the excess tissue from interfering with sexual contact.

Who qualifies for this labiaplasty?

In order to qualify for a labiaplasty procedure, a candidate:

– Is 18 years of age or older

– Is in good health

– Is of sound mental health

– Experiences discomfort from excessively long labia and/or

– Desires a trim and tidy appearance of the labia

As with any surgery, there are risks involved, including decreased sensitivity, dryness, bleeding, and infection.

There are three different types of labiaplasty procedures, depending on the portion of the labia treated. These include:

Most labiaplasty procedures consist of trimming excess tissue from the labia minora, which are the inner vaginal lips.
While a labiaplasty usually only addresses the labia minora, in some cases the outer lips of the labia, known as the labia majora, need treatment.
If a woman has excess tissue around her clitoral hood, her labiaplasty procedure can include the carefully trimming away of any excess tissue that hangs over the clitoris. The remaining overlying skin can be rearranged without risk of nerve injury or a reduction of stimulation and sexual satisfaction.

When Dr. Parvin Mani of San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic performs a labiaplasty, she removes excess tissue in a V-shaped configuration. The results look natural, especially along the edges. The color and overall shape are maintained as well with this type of labiaplasty. The doctor will work with you to determine exactly how much tissue to remove depending on the final look you want. No one will know you’ve had your vaginal area altered unless you choose to tell them.

The success of most surgeries is dependent, in part, on steps taken in the days, weeks, or months before the surgery takes place. At San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic, Dr. Mani will give you a set of pre-operative instructions. In general, here’s some of what you may be able to expect:

– Quit smoking 4 weeks prior to surgery

– Avoid food, drinks, medications, and supplements that increase risk of bleeding and bruising for two weeks before surgery

– Make arrangements for a ride home on the day of the surgery

– Be sure you have several pairs of clean, loose panties available for your recovery time

– Set up a home recovery area

– Arrange for time off work and help around the house while you recover

– Fill any prescriptions for pain medication or antibiotics given to you by Dr. Mani

– Shave the pubic area two days before the surgery (optional)

It’s important to follow all of Dr. Mani’s pre- and post-operative instructions in order to help ensure a quick and complication-free recovery.

Some women opt for a combination of two of these procedures, or even all three.

Dr. Mani uses the trim technique, which is the most commonly used surgical method for performing labiaplasty. To begin the procedure, Dr. Mani makes several small incisions along the labia majora or labia minora. She then removes excess tissue and contours and reshapes the labia for a more pleasing appearance. Dr. Mani then closes the incisions with dissolvable sutures.

What is the downtime for this procedure?

A labiaplasty does involve some downtime. You may want to arrange for a week or more off work, depending on the type of work you do. You’ll need to avoid prolonged periods of sitting for a week or so, and can’t soak in water (swimming, hot tub, baths etc) usually for 6 weeks.Dr. Mani will advise you on when you can resume exercise, but you should avoid vaginal intercourse for at least six weeks after your labiaplasty surgery.

How fast can labiaplasty results be seen?

Everyone heals at their own pace, but typically, labiaplasty surgery takes six weeks for a full recovery. For some people, the swelling goes down within two to three weeks, but for others, it can take much longer. Until the swelling subsides, it may be difficult to see the results of your labiaplasty, as the swelling tends to change the size and shape of your vulva. During your follow-up appointment with Dr. Mani, she’ll be able to give you an idea of how well you’re healing and when you can expect to see the full results.
